I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to experience moments like this! Please check out the video below....The Campamento Tortuguero (Turtle Farm) is about an hour’s drive east of the cruise terminal in Acapulco. It is a small non-profit organization founded and run by a female marine biologist, which, in Mexico is a VERY big deal! In Latin countries turtle meat is considered to be an aphrodisiac, so in spite of laws prohibiting the hunting and consumption of the sea turtle, much needs to be done in this region to inform and educate its people.
The turtles we released had just hatched the previous night. I wonder if there was time for any imprinting to occur. Does my baby turtle now perceive me as its mother figure? Ten years from now will a giant sea turtle turn up at my doorstep and blame me for its personal problems? I hope so. Only one percent of baby sea turtles live to reach adulthood so I will keep mine in my prayers.
